Who is happily gearing up for Turkey Day? :blowkiss: Who is positively dreading it? :bolt:

I am mixed on it this year. I told my husband we were NOT having his parents over for Thanksgiving this year. Ugh. My parents are traveling here for Thanksgiving this year. Yay me. Since I can't stress out right now, my Mom is going to take care of everything. That I am looking forward to. The part I dread, is I can't really do anything and my brother, nephew, sister and niece will all be here as well. My sister stresses me out. And don't get me started on Christmas yet. We have a scheduled C-section for December 22nd.
I have CDO. It's like OCD but all the letters are in alphabetical order like they should be....

I think I am ambivalent about it this year. Years ago hubby and I decided to spend major holidays with each others family every other year. For instance, this year we spend Thanksgiving with my family, next year with his. This removes ONE major stress .... the multiple conversations of who do we spend the holiday with and who hosts it, etc.

My immediate family all lives in the same city. This makes it nice since we do not have to travel. We usually host the day as we have the house most conducive to large gatherings (there are 12 of us ranging in age from 78 to 8 yrs old). It's always fun once things get started; however, I think we can all agree there is always a certain amount of stress that is just inherent in this family holiday stuff. The expectations, logistics, and the amount of plain ol' work involved = stressed, cranky cooks, hosts and travelers.

The most relaxing Thanksgiving holidays I have ever had are the few when we have gone to a restaurant. Yes, I know this may be sacrilege to many but, I tell you it was a blast!! Every city has at least a few nice restaurants that remain open and provide wonderful Thanksgiving buffets and we availed ourselves of one. There was something for everyone's palette, from vegetarians to carnivores, kids to adults. The women were carefree and far from cranky. We came back to our house for football, naps and dessert. A heavenly day.
