cranberry supplements

Postby amyf » Sun Apr 12, 2009 12:31 am

Does anyone have any experience with using cranberry juice vs. supplements (pills) to help prevent UTIs? I seem to be getting infections every month or so, and since I'm allergic to almost every antibiotic under the sun, this is NOT GOOD. I've been taking cranberry supplements, but I'm not sure if/how much it may be helping. And of course each different brand says a daily dose is a different amount (trying to sell, of course) and it's usually unclear just how many milligrams they are. I'd prefer not to drink the juice (have to pick and choose my extra calories!), but if anyone believes that it's significantly better, I might give it a try. Thanks.

Hi amyf!

I was having the same problem a couple of months ago and also bought the supplements (can't remember what kind, but I got them at Walgreens). I can't say that they made a whole heck of a lot of difference in my symptoms. I buy the diet cranberry juice and mix it with sparkling water and drink a big glass every morning. Maybe it's just my system, but no more UTI's since I started doing it. That's not to say that the cran supplements don't work...they just didn't seem to make any difference to me.

Good luck...UTI's SUCK!!! :cussing:

Sigh. Maybe I'll give that a try. It'll be hard to tell what works, though, since I get them SO OFTEN. Anyway, thank you. :-)
